National Network of Abortion FundsMid-Atlantic -- Volunteering/Internships (Reproductive Health, Advocacy/Activism)The National Network of Abortion Funds (the Network) is the only nationwide organization in the U.S. that combines a commitment to direct financial assistance to women and girls needing abortions with grassroots activism, national organizing, and reproductive rights policy work. The Network has rapidly grown since its beginnings in 1993, and now includes 104 member Funds in 42 states, the District of Columbia and Canada. This past year, member Funds dispersed over $2.6 million in grants and loans to more than 23,000 women and girls who lacked resources to pay for abortion services. While the member Funds help individual women, the Network supports the work of the Funds and provides them with the training and support they need to grow. The Network supports organizational growth through training in fundraising and organizational development, opportunities for networking, grants for advocacy, and computer technology and other tools. To promote the development of new abortion Funds in underserved areas of the country, the Network provides individualized support and a step-by-step organizing guide to help activists start new Funds. The Network also conducts national and state-based advocacy to ensure that the women most in need - low-income women, women of color, immigrant women, and young women - have access to abortion and to full reproductive heath care.
Intern will assist staff with various aspects of organizational management including: requests for information and materials, production and distribution of in-house publications (newsletters, organizing guides, etc.), fundraising (processing donations, sending thank-you letters, updating the donor management database, helping with bi-annual donor mailings), filing and other office duties. In addition, the intern will spend a considerable amount of time working with the Conference Coordinator on the Network's Annual Training and Organizing Summit in June (12-15th). If possible, the intern would attend conference as Conference Assistant, providing support for attendees and staff. Other projects may be developed according to interest and available time.
